Summary

1.) Unwind wire.
2.) Tie the wire around J bolt
3.) Connect the J bolt to the chimney bracket
4.) Wrap the wire around the chimney.
5.) Connect the second J bolt to the chimney bracket.
6.) Tie the wire around the second J bolt.
7.) Install the three corner plates.
8.) Tighten the J bolts till the chimney bracket is secure

Unscrew the nut on the J bolts until they’re at the end of the thread-this gives you maximum adjustment when tightening the wire lashing later. Cut a one foot length off the lashing wire. Now unthread the strands so you’re left with a bunch of one foot wire strands. Make a small loop in your lashing wire-use enough wire to make a 2/3 inch loop and to be able to wrap 7/8 inches of wire around the main length (back-on-itself so to speak) Use 2/3 of the wire strands to wrap tightly around this to create a secure loop that will not come undone.

Place the chimney bracket on one corner of the chimney, and with the J bolts fitted into the bracket holes, fix you lashing wire loop onto one J bolt and throw the remaining lashing wire around the chimney. So you have to hold the bracket, fit the J bolts and stop them falling out, put the loop over one J bolt and get the rest of the wire around a dirty great chimney!  Now you’ve achieved this, pull the wire tight and bend it around the other J bolt so you now have the correct length of wire needed. Repeat the ‘making a loop’ bit with this end (this is where I always forget the strands of wire and have to climb all the bloody way down again!) Now secure this loop on the other J bolt and finger tighten the J bolt nuts and the bracket should stay in place. Place the corner protectors onto the other 3 corners of the chimney before tightening.!
