Free To Air (FTA), Freesat and Free To View (FTV) Satellite Channels on 28.2 degrees East of South Free To Air (FTA) satellite
You can receive FTA programmes with any digital satellite receiver, satellite dish and LNB. You don't need a viewing card or Conditional Access Module (CAM). To receive Free to Air programmes, broadcast from the Astra satellite at 28.2 degrees East of South, all you need is a satellite receiver, there is no encryption or subscription. All BBC and ITV programmes are FTA. FTA receivers can also be used to receive free foreign satellite channels (by re-aligning your satellite dish).
Freesat
The BBC and ITV launched a free-to-view digital TV service transmitted by satellite in spring 2008. It is encrypted and you will need a "freesat" receiver to watch. It can be viewed by any satellite receiver with a Freesat logo, Freesat is all the same channels as Free-to-Air but unlike FTA receivers you get an 8 day EPG.
Free To View (FTV) or Freesat from sky
Sky Free to view (sometimes known as freesat from sky) allows you to watch the same channels as free to air and Freesat, as well as Sky 3 and a few other Sky only channels, but you will need a Sky Digibox and suitable viewing card (available direct from Sky).
